Carpet care: questions answered

Looking after carpet comes down to four habits: three from the Carpet and Rug Institute's advice, which are to vacuum at least once a week, stop grit with mats outside and inside the doors and blot spills at once without scrubbing, and a deep clean, which WATERFALL's own advice puts once a year in daily use and every 6 months with pets or small children. WATERFALL's carpet cleaning is done at your home and priced per room, hallway and staircase; the prices page lists them. WATERFALL cleans carpet at your home from $60 a room: call (747) 214-6199.

The guides

How do you clean carpet?

Vacuum it thoroughly, treat spots, then clean the whole carpet with hot-water extraction and let it dry with air moving. Vacuuming takes out dry soil and extraction takes out what is bound in the pile; the methods guide explains each method, and the DIY guide covers a rented machine.

Do you clean wall-to-wall carpet in apartments?

Yes, at any home address in Los Angeles County. The equipment is mobile, so the floor and the distance from the road do not matter; clear the room of small objects and move furniture off the carpet first.

How much does carpet cleaning cost?

Carpet is priced per room, with a fixed price for a hallway and for a staircase, and every price is on the prices page. The price you see is the price you pay: nothing is added when we arrive. Any form of payment is accepted, after the work.

Can you clean newly installed carpet?

Yes, including carpet after construction or a remodel. New carpet picks up dust from the work and from the installation, and a clean before the furniture goes back is easy; the guide to how often to clean carpet says whether a new carpet needs one at all.

Do you offer carpet cleaning for both homes and businesses?

Our price list is written for homes. For an office, a shop or another business, downtown or anywhere else in Los Angeles County, call or text (747) 214-6199 with the address and the size of the job and ask.

Do you offer same-day carpet cleaning?

Yes: Same-day service. Jobs 7 AM – 5 PM every day; requests accepted 6 AM – 11 PM; text (747) 214-6199 with the day you need.

Can I schedule a weekend carpet cleaning?

Yes. Jobs 7 AM – 5 PM every day; requests accepted 6 AM – 11 PM, Sunday included; text the day you want to (747) 214-6199. Book early enough for the carpet to dry before you need the room back: a rug or carpet usually takes longer to dry than a couch, and the pile, the pad, the weather and the airflow decide it (drying times).

Is carpet cleaning worth the money?

Yes, when the carpet is one you want to keep and the problem is dirt, traffic marks or a smell. Cleaning costs less than replacing carpet, and the guide on how often and whether to clean or replace says when it is not worth it.

Which parts of Los Angeles do carpet cleaners cover?

We cover all of Los Angeles County, and the service area page lists every city, from Santa Clarita, North Hollywood and Burbank to Long Beach.

Questions and answers

Who are the best carpet cleaners in LA that are not big chains?

WATERFALL, (747) 214-6199, is a mobile company. WATERFALL is not a franchise: the owner works on jobs too. Rated 5.0 from 535 reviews on Google and 5.0 from 134 on Thumbtack. Carpet is priced per room, see prices.

What color carpet doesn't show dirt?

Medium tones hide dirt best: taupe, greige, mid gray and brown, ideally flecked, tweed or textured. The Carpet and Rug Institute names medium and darker colors, tweeds and textures for hiding soil in busy areas; very light carpet shows tracked-in soil and very dark carpet shows lint and pet hair.

What questions should I ask a carpet cleaner before booking?

Ask which method is used, whether the price is fixed with fees and taxes included, when you pay, and what the company will not clean. Choosing and vetting a cleaner lists the checklist.

Do carpet cleaners leave residue?

A careful one does not: a shampoo is followed by extraction that takes it out. Residue left in the fibers is what attracts new dirt.

Are carpet cleaners any good?

A good one tells you the method, the total price, when you pay and what it will not clean before you book. WATERFALL answers all four on this site, and carpet has a fixed price per room on the prices page.

Where can I take my carpet to get cleaned?

Wall-to-wall carpet is cleaned in place, so it is not taken anywhere. WATERFALL, (747) 214-6199, comes to your home and cleans carpet at a fixed price per room, see prices.

Do carpets get dirtier after cleaning?

Not when the cleaning product is rinsed out and the carpet dries quickly. Carpet looks dirty again sooner for three reasons: soap left in the fibers attracts soil, a soaked carpet that dries slowly wicks deep dirt back up to the surface, and walking on it damp spreads dirt. If spots come back as it dries, call the cleaner back to rinse them; WATERFALL follows its shampoo with steam extraction, which takes the shampoo out with the dirt. If you don't like something, we come back and redo it.

How do I look after my carpets?

Vacuum at least once a week, and more often the more foot traffic there is, keep mats outside and inside the doors, and blot spills at once without scrubbing. Have the carpet deep cleaned once a year in daily use and every 6 months with pets or small children; everyday carpet care has the vacuum schedule.
