Hiring a cleaner: questions answered

Choose a cleaner on the method, the total price, when you pay and what they will not clean, and ask for these before you book. On the day, a WATERFALL technician comes to your home with our own machines, lays a drop cloth and cleans each piece you booked; the visit takes about an hour for a typical couch, 1–2 hours for bigger pieces, and you pay after the work. Couch cleaning is priced by seats, and the prices page lists every fixed price. WATERFALL cleans couches at your home from $130: call (747) 214-6199.

The guides

What should a carpet or upholstery cleaner tell you before you hire them?

Six things, in writing, before the visit: the method, the total price with fees and taxes, what costs extra, when you pay, how drying works and what they will not clean. The guide to choosing and vetting a cleaner lists the questions to ask any company, and the comparison of cleaning methods shows what to ask in a quote.

WATERFALL's answers: an organic shampoo worked in and pulled out by steam extraction; a fixed price for each piece on the booking form; carpet at a fixed price per room; payment after the work, in any form, with an invoice on request; drying that depends on the weather; we do not clean genuine leather or viscose rugs and carpet, and we do clean after mold, a flood, moths, smoke or a leak. The price you see is the price you pay: nothing is added when we arrive.

What happens during a professional upholstery cleaning visit at home?

The piece is cleaned where it stands, in one visit; how professionals clean a couch has the cleaning steps in detail.

  • You send the request on the site or text (747) 214-6199 (requests are accepted 6 AM – 11 PM), and we contact you to confirm the pieces, the address and the time. Same-day service is available, and jobs run 7 AM – 5 PM every day.
  • On the day you chose, the technician arrives with our own machines and lays a drop cloth by the piece.
  • You show the pieces and the stains and say what was used on them before; the tag, the fabric and the mark decide what we can do.
  • The cushions come off and are cleaned one by one, and the frame is cleaned on every side: the piece is vacuumed first from the top, an organic shampoo is worked deep into the fibers by machine, a high-powered steam-extraction machine pulls the shampoo, the dirt and excess moisture back out, and remaining spots get a specialised stain remover and a professional odor treatment.
  • The machine is about as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner, so you can stay in the next room.
  • The cushions are set out so air reaches every side. We use no fans or air movers, because they can damage the material; furniture dries on its own, fairly quickly, because LA's humidity is low.
  • You pay after the work, in any form of payment, with an invoice on request and a receipt when you pay by card; the cleaning itself takes about an hour for a typical couch, 1–2 hours for bigger pieces, and drying times by item says how long the drying takes.

How long does the visit take, and how should I prepare?

The visit takes about an hour for a typical couch, 1–2 hours for bigger pieces. You clear the area and move furniture that sits underneath before we arrive. The guide to the visit lists what to do, and the guide to how long a cleaning takes covers each item.

How long does it take to dry after cleaning?

A couch dries in between 2 and 6 hours on average, depending on the weather, and a rug or carpet usually takes longer to dry than a couch: the pile, the pad, the weather and the airflow decide it. The guide to drying times says what shortens it and when you can sit, walk and put furniture back.

What do you use, and what does it cost?

We use the best non-toxic products, safe for kids and pets in every home: an organic shampoo is worked into the fabric and steam extraction pulls it out with the dirt. Every piece on the booking form has a fixed price, a couch by its seats, and you pay after the work. The price you see is the price you pay: nothing is added when we arrive. See the prices page.

Do you come to my area?

We serve Los Angeles County and come to your home with our own machines. The areas page lists the cities, and the reviews page has what customers say.

Questions and answers

How long before I can use the furniture again?

When it is dry: a couch dries in between 2 and 6 hours on average, depending on the weather, and a rug or carpet usually takes longer. Drying times by item says what changes it.

Can I stay home during the cleaning?

Someone needs to let us in and show us what to clean. The machine runs at about the noise level of a regular vacuum cleaner, so you can be in the next room.

What if something looks wrong after the visit?

Let the piece dry fully before judging it. If a problem remains, text (747) 214-6199 with a photo. If you don't like something, we come back and redo it. problems after cleaning explains the usual causes.

What happens on the day of the visit?

A technician arrives with our machines, lays a drop cloth, takes the cushions off and cleans each piece you booked in four steps: pre-vacuuming, shampooing with an organic solution, steam extraction, and stain and odor removal. You pay after the work in any form of payment, with an invoice on request and a receipt when you pay by card, and the cushions are left set out to dry.

What do I need to know before I book a cleaner?

The method, the total price with fees and taxes, when you pay, and what the company will not clean. Choosing and vetting a cleaner lists the questions.

Do you need a professional carpet cleaner for the whole house?

Not for a small spot, which you can blot. For whole rooms, a professional extraction machine takes out more than a rental.

Why do you need photos?

The tag, the fabric and the mark decide what we can do, and a photo shows all three before the visit. Text them to (747) 214-6199 and we confirm the details before you book.

Do you tell me what you will not clean?

We do not clean genuine leather, viscose rugs or viscose carpet, and we do not repair, dye or patch. We do clean after mold, a flood, moths, smoke or a leak.
