How to get wax, glue, ink, paint and makeup out of carpet and a couch
Some marks sit on the fibers and come off in pieces, such as wax and gum, and some are dyes, such as ink, paint and hair dye, that need a solvent and a careful hand. WATERFALL's carpet cleaning is priced per room, and the prices page lists the prices. WATERFALL cleans carpet at your home from $60 a room: call (747) 214-6199.

How do I clean nail polish off carpet?
Blot the wet polish without rubbing and text a photo before you reach for nail polish remover. Remover based on acetone dissolves some carpet and upholstery fibers, such as acetate and triacetate, and can leave a bleached or melted patch worse than the polish.
If you do use it, test it on a hidden spot, use a little on a white cloth, work from the edge in and rinse the area by blotting. A dried polish drop is often better scraped off in flakes first.
How do you get paint out of carpet?
Wet water-based paint, such as latex or acrylic, comes out with blotting and cool water if you are quick; dried paint and oil-based paint are much harder. Lift the excess, blot, rinse by blotting, and do not let it dry.
Dried paint has glued itself to the fibers. Do not scrub or pick at it, because that breaks the pile, and ask by text.
Can you remove makeup or paint from carpet?
Sometimes. Makeup is oil and pigment and comes out better than most marks; paint depends on the kind, and dried or oil-based paint is the hard case. Text a photo of the mark and the carpet to (747) 214-6199.
Can spilled hair dye come out of carpet?
Sometimes, if it is fresh; dye is made to bond, so a dried spill often stays. Scoop up the excess, blot from the outside in, then dab dish soap in cool water and blot with a clean damp cloth until no more color comes up.
Test any stronger product first, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol or vinegar, because they can bleach carpet too; no hot water, steam, acetone or bleach, and never mix products. On wool or a dried spill, stop after blotting and text a photo to (747) 214-6199.
How do you remove makeup from carpet?
Lift any loose powder with the vacuum, blot the oil with a white cloth, then use a few drops of dish soap in cool water and rinse by blotting. Foundation and lipstick are oil with pigment, so treat the oil first and the color after.
Can you remove makeup and foundation from fabric chairs?
Usually when fresh. Blot the foundation, then use a few drops of dish soap in cool water on a white cloth, rinse by blotting and dry with a fan. The tag may say S, in which case text us a photo of it before you add water.
How do you get coffee and makeup off a light-colored couch?
Treat each for what it is: coffee is a tannin dye that lifts with cool water, and makeup is oil with pigment that needs the oil treated first. Check the tag, blot coffee with cool water and a drop of dish soap, lift loose makeup off, then dab the oil with dish soap on a white cloth and rinse by blotting.
An old coffee ring or a deep lipstick or foundation mark on a light fabric may lighten and still show; text a photo to (747) 214-6199 before you try a solvent.
How do you remove ink from a sofa?
Blot an ink mark, never rub it, and test a cleaner on a hidden spot before you use anything. Many ballpoint and permanent inks respond to rubbing alcohol on a white cloth, dabbed from the edge inward, and alcohol can harm some dyes, so test it first and stop if color comes off the fabric.
Ink is a dye, so a fresh mark has a good chance and an old one may leave a shadow.
Can you remove ink from an upholstered chair?
Sometimes. Fresh ink on a washable-coded fabric has the best chance; ink on an S fabric or a light one is one to ask about before you apply anything, and X fabric takes no liquid. Text a photo and the tag to (747) 214-6199.
How do you remove ink stains from carpet?
Blot, test, then dab with alcohol on a white cloth, working from the outside in and changing the cloth often; rinse by blotting with cool water. A dried ink stain, a permanent marker and a mark that has been through a hot wash or a heater are the ones that may stay.
Can you remove crayon and marker from upholstery?
Crayon is wax and pigment, so lift the wax first and treat the color after; washable marker comes out with soap and cool water, and permanent marker is ink. Scrape off the crayon, treat the color, and ask by text for permanent marker on a light fabric.
How do you get kids' marker out of a couch?
If the marker says washable, blot with cool water and a drop of dish soap on a white cloth and rinse by blotting. If it does not say, treat it as ink: test first and keep the cloth moving so that the color does not spread.
Can you get juice and crayon stains out of the kids' room carpet?
Usually the juice yes and the crayon in part. Lift the crayon wax with a dull edge, blot the juice with cool water, and ask us about what remains. A kids' room has mixed marks, so it is easier to clean the carpet as a whole than to chase each one.
How do you get candle wax out of a rug?
Harden the wax with ice in a bag, break it off with a dull edge, then lay a paper towel over the rest and press a warm iron on it for a moment to draw the wax into the paper. Use the iron only on a wool or cotton rug, keep it low and moving, use a clean part of the paper each time and never put the iron on the rug itself; on a synthetic rug heat melts the fibers, and for silk or viscose text a photo first. Vacuum once it has cooled.
How do you remove candle wax from carpet without damaging the fibers?
Freeze it hard, crack it off, vacuum the crumbs, and use paper and a low-heat iron or a warm hair dryer only on the stubborn film. Heat melts synthetic fibers and loops, so test on a hidden corner and keep the heat moving.
A colored candle can leave dye after the wax is gone; that part is treated like ink.
How do you get glue out of carpet?
Water-based craft glue comes out with warm water and a drop of dish soap if you are quick; hardened glue is lifted in pieces with a dull edge, and some of it needs a solvent that the carpet may not stand. Test any solvent on a hidden spot.
How do you get super glue out of carpet without ruining the fibers?
Let it harden fully, then chip and lift it with a dull knife or a plastic card without pulling the fibers. Test one drop of acetone on a cotton swab in a hidden corner and stop if the color runs, the fiber melts or it feels different; if it passes, dab only the glue with a barely damp swab, changing it often, and never let the acetone soak through to the backing, where the latex holds the carpet together. Open a window, keep flames away, and use a glue remover only if its label says it is safe on carpet.
Cleaning cannot repair fibers that were cut out or glued together, and we do not repair carpet.
Can you remove glue, glitter or craft stains from a couch?
Glitter lifts with tape and a vacuum, craft glue comes out of a washable-coded fabric when it is wet, and a dried glue patch is lifted in pieces. Do not scrape dried glue off with a blade: it takes the fabric with it.
My kid got slime on the couch: how do I get it out?
Lift it off first. Harden gum with ice and lift it off, scrape slime off while it is wet, then blot the mark with dish soap in cool water. Slime that has dried in the pile pulls fibers as it comes off, so work slowly.
On a couch, check the tag first; on W or W/S fabric, lift the slime off with a spoon, dab a few drops of dish soap in cool water from the outside in, then blot with plain water and let it air-dry. Colored slime can leave dye after the glue is gone; that part is treated like ink, and on S or X fabric, stop after lifting the solids.
How do you remove slime from carpet?
Scrape off what you can with a spoon, blot with white vinegar diluted in water and dish soap, and rinse by blotting; slime is mostly glue and water, so it softens in liquid. Dried slime is picked loose in pieces, not pulled.
Can you remove beach tar from carpet?
Sometimes. Tar is a heavy petroleum product that sticks and stains, so harden it with ice, lift off the lump with a dull edge, and ask before you use a solvent. A smear of tar spreads with a solvent and makes a bigger mark, so a photo by text is the safe next step.
When should ink, paint or glue go to a professional?
When the mark is dye-based and dry, covers a visible area, sits on a light or delicate fabric or a rug, or when you have already tried a solvent. We come to your home and clean the whole piece, with an organic shampoo and steam extraction, and we tell you what we expect from a photo before you book. Carpet is priced per room and all prices are on the prices page.
Questions and answers
Can coffee and makeup stains come out of a light-colored couch?
Often, when they are fresh: coffee lifts with cool water and a drop of dish soap, and makeup needs its oil treated with dish soap first. An old coffee ring or a deep foundation mark may lighten and still show on light fabric, so we say what we expect after seeing a photo.
How to get candle wax out of a rug?
Harden it with an ice pack and break off what you can, then lift the rest with a warm iron over a paper towel on a wool or cotton rug only. Skip the iron on synthetic, silk and viscose rugs, and text a photo to (747) 214-6199 if wax or color stays.
